and current membership are completed and paid in full or registration
and/or dues sponsorship information has been provided; until one of these two payment options has been completed, the travel scholarship

Travel Scholarship Application - Graduate Students
1) Applying for Travel Scholarships: The applications for travel scholarships are
only available online. Applicants must indicate, on the appropriate sections of the online application, whether
they are applying for travel support, lodging support, or both.
2) 500-Word Statement of Purpose: In the online application, the applicants must
submit a statement of purpose in the space provided. Applications missing a statement of purpose will not be accepted. Statements
must meet a 500-word minimum or application will be rejected.
Details – Describe your current research and/or field of study and
future career goals. Also include include an explanation of why you would like to attend the SACNAS National Conference
and how attending the conference will help you in your academic and professional career.
3) School Transcript: Each applicant is required to submit his/her most current transcript
(official or unofficial) that will demonstrate enrollment in the school currently attending. Transcripts must be uploaded online in
PDF format or emailed by the application deadline (5/1/2009). Transcripts can be obtained
through the academic records and/or the office of the registrar on the applicant’s campus.
NOTE – Please upload transcripts online in PDF format. Use the edit application
link in MySACNAS to upload your materials after you have created your application. SACNAS is unable
to accept hardcopies of materials.
4) Letter of Recommendation: Each applicant is required to submit a letter of
recommendation from a faculty member or program director. The letter of recommendation must be uploaded online in PDF format
or emailed by the application deadline (5/1/2009). It is recommended that applicants give plenty of notice prior
to the application deadline to the individual who will be asked to write a letter of recommendation on your behalf.

to accept hardcopies of materials.
5) SACNAS Student Asset Survey: SACNAS encourages all travel scholarship applicants to
complete a SACNAS Student Asset Survey in order for SACNAS to assess and evaluate the outcomes of the conference. Within a couple
of weeks after the application deadline, each travel scholarship applicant will receive an email message with instructions regarding
how to complete and submit the SACNAS Student Asset Survey. Please note that the completion of this survey is requested but NOT required.
Award Details
Travel scholarships include lodging and/or travel to the SACNAS National Conference. Notification
of application status will be sent via email by the end of June. All travel scholarship awardees will be required to
submit a Travel Scholarship Contract by a required deadline (within two weeks of award notification) to finalize and activate the
award; failure to submit the contract by the deadline will invalidate the travel scholarship award. Air travel and/or lodging
arrangements will be made by SACNAS upon receipt of signed Travel Scholarship Contract.
Note: Failure to follow the cancellation policy may result in financial charges to the student for air
travel, lodging, and registration fees (up to $1,500 in fees).
Lodging
Graduate student travel scholarship recipients will be housed at a conference hotel for three (3) to four (4) nights, two (2)
students per room. Number of hotel nights/arrival date is dependent on a number of factors—including but not limited to
participation in preconference activities and travel from a location requiring extended flight duration to arrive at the
conference location (SACNAS reserves the right to determine arrival date). Assigned hotel rooms have two double beds per
room. Awards cover room and tax only. Incidentals are not covered.
Travel
Standard Roundtrip Airfare: All travel scholarship recipients will be scheduled to arrive either on Wednesday, October 14 or
Thursday, October 15, and depart on Sunday, October 18. SACNAS travel scholarship does NOT cover ground transportation
to and from the airport.
