Precollege (K-12) Teacher Workshops

Since 1986, SACNAS has been offering K-12 teachers training and resources designed to further math and science education for underrepresented minority students. The SACNAS National Conference, a prestigious scientific meeting, provides precollege educators with unique opportunities to grow professionally and to interact with science, mathematics, and engineering professionals, faculty, researchers, and education leaders from across the nation.

The National Conference

During the annual conference, precollege educators participate in dynamic hands-on, inquiry-based science, mathematics, engineering, and technology sessions, discussion groups, and collaborations. Teachers will take part in topical workshops, while simultaneously assessing their own objectives and goals in relation to the methodologies and content presented. Nationally recognized organizations, government agencies, and education leaders lead sessions addressing inquiry within scientific disciplines including health science, mathematics, space science, microbiology, chemistry, and more.

This exceptional institute brings together teachers--who are dedicated to creating educational opportunities for minority students--in order to:

actively take part in their professional growth
engage in hands-on, inquiry-based activities
discover new ways to captivate minority student interest in the sciences
increase background knowledge in math and science
build networks with national educators, professional scientists, and students

Participants
SACNAS invites elementary, middle and high school classroom teachers; district science and math specialists; Title 1 teachers; Johnson O'Malley program leaders; administrators; K-12 coordinators; and all others working with underrepresented minority students to attend this educational institute.

Registration
Registration includes participation in the SACNAS Precollege (K-12) Teacher Workshops, SACNAS National Conference events, curriculum, materials, exhibits, conference meals, and a personalized certificate of participation.

SACNAS Distinguished K12 Educator Award
SACNAS wishes to recognize and honor the contributions of pre-college educators whose superior scholarship, mentoring and dedication serve as a model for future generations. Recipients of the SACNAS Distinguished K-12 Educator Award attend the SACNAS National Conference as a guest at the SACNAS Precollege (K-12) Teacher Workshops and are acknowledged during the awards ceremony.
